The proof is in the clock

Kate Scootin Boon began consistent stretching and Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse sessions two weeks prior to the California High School Rodeo Association state finals, where she beat her personal best times in every run that week. The full second improvements secured her spot at the National High School Rodeo finals and won the Reserve California High School Pole Bending title. During both state finals and nationals, she received pre-performance optimization sessions before competition and recovery sessions between runs.

"Kates Scootin Boon was originally started at a reined cow-horse and cutting facility, but was rejected as a 2 year old, then spent the next six years as a barrel horse. My family purchased Bug in 2019 as a back up horse. After understanding her style and quirks, I decided to start her on poles my freshman year in California High School Rodeo (District 1). This mare is so intelligent, she picked up the pattern in only about a month! The next season, I was running a constant 21-22 second pattern every run. For the next couple years, I was first alternate every time to qualify for the State Finals.

By my Senior year, I did not want to think about state, but just to have fun! With that, the year came with its own struggles. Bug came down with strangles and pneumonia in January, and was quarantined for about a month and did not compete until another month later. She gives her all in every run and we were able to qualify for state in a muddy mess of a run (the tractor could not even get into the arena)!

Qualifying for state was a blessing, and after Miss Bug was out, all I wanted was to maintain her health to keep her on her A game! I asked Regan Davis with RestorEquine if she could help work on my girl before we went down to Bishop (where the state finals were held).

Once we arrived for state (about 5 days before competition), I made a promise to Bug that whatever happened, I will put her health and wellness before the competition or anything else. When I rode her around the day after our arrival, I knew something felt off. When Regan palpated her that evening, her pectoral muscles were so tight that she would try to bite whoever touched her there. She treated her whole front end, then we played it by ear. I would get her out to hand walk her and pony her off of my backup horse for the next couple days, then went back to riding.

Round 1, Bug and I broke our personal best time with a 21.5, placing us 6th for the round! The night before round 2, Regan roller bared her chest and shoulders. The morning of round 2, she worked on her whole hind end. Just in the warm-up, I could feel a difference, she was very relaxed and I knew she was feeling better! Coming into the gate, she had no issues whatsoever. That run, she placed second in the round placing us a spot for the short-go with a 21.1! Our short-go run was 21.2 and named us the 2023 Reserve Pole Bending Champion and earning us a spot to the 75th Annual National and World High School Finals."
